Connor McDavid, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers and a generational hockey talent, has made the shocking and eagerly awaited announcement that his first biography, “A Screaming Life,” will soon be released. The project promises to provide an unvarnished and intimate insight into McDavid’s life on and off the ice. It will be co-authored with former NHL defenseman and ESPN analyst Kevin Bieksa, Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels, and the legendary Rod Phillips.
“A Screaming Life,” which is scheduled for publication in early 2026, details McDavid’s incredible ascent from a small-town prodigy in Newmarket, Ontario, to the position of face of the Edmonton Oilers and one of the most dominant players in NHL history. The title encapsulates the intensity and emotional depth of McDavid’s journey, paying homage to both the thunderous Rogers Place supporters and the passion that drives every step he takes.
Early on Friday morning, McDavid revealed the news in a touching social media post:
“This book is my opportunity to share the narrative behind the skates, including the moments that shaped me, the friendships, the sacrifices, and the setbacks. It felt like home to work with Kevin, Jack, and Rod. They have all contributed to my hockey story in one way or another, and I couldn’t ask for finer voices to share it.
According to reports, the memoir will combine personal musings on leadership, legacy, and the tremendous pressure of being dubbed “the next Gretzky” with colorful narrative and behind-the-scenes locker room experiences. “A Screaming Life” will provide a unique human image of the game’s biggest star, according to Bieksa, who has earned a reputation for his astute analysis and comedy.
According to Bieksa, Connor is not only the world’s greatest player but also one of the most considerate. “We wanted readers to see the whole picture: the young man who still remembers playing pond hockey until the sun went down, the meticulous professional, and the fierce competitor.”
The initiative has a feeling of legacy and continuity for devoted Oilers fans because of the participation of legendary voices like Rod Phillips and Jack Michaels. The book will feature the “soundtrack of Edmonton hockey,” a symphony of aspirations, ambitions, and community pride, according to Michaels, who has described some of McDavid’s best moments. After serving as the Oilers’ play-by-play commentator for more than 40 years, Phillips retired in 2011. He called the partnership “a passing of the torch through storytelling.”
According to early rumors, “A Screaming Life” will also have a number of unique photos, handwritten notes from McDavid’s career turning points, and a special foreword from Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky, one of McDavid’s greatest supporters and mentors.
The announcement of the memoir has already shocked the hockey community, with supporters and commentators applauding McDavid’s choice to share details of his life off the rink. “We’ve watched him skate through defenses—now we get to see what’s been driving him all along,” a fan commented on social media.
Connor McDavid enters the world of legacy storytelling with “A Screaming Life,” a fitting chapter for a player whose every move has already defined an era of hockey glory.
