I send this letter with immense gratitude, clarity, and love to my dear Blondie bandmates, to every fan who has danced, fantasized, and rebelled with us, and to the thriving global community that has sustained our spirit throughout generations.
Every artist has a unique moment in life when they pause, take a deep breath, and genuinely perceive the mosaic of souls that have shaped their path. One indisputable fact strikes me as I consider Blondie’s incredible, erratic, and frequently miraculous journey from seedy New York bars to international recognition: I am where I am because of you.
To my Blondie brothers—Chris, Clem, Jimmy, and every other member who has accompanied me on this journey throughout the years—you are the driving force behind each chord shift, each reinvention, and each rebellious spark that shaped our sound. You pushed me to explore the boundaries of my potential, encouraged me, supported me when things got tough, and challenged me. Together, we defied expectations, broke conventions, and merged genres. You provided me with a stage, a family, and a space to develop—not just as a performer but also as a woman figuring out how to deal with celebrity, identity, and expression in a society that doesn’t always allow for complexity. I’m grateful for everything.
To our fans: you are the driving force behind every reinvention Blondie has ever dared to embrace. You are radiant, fearless, amazing spirits. You stuck with us through the punk clubs of the 1970s, the neon fire of the 1980s, and the changing soundscapes that followed. You sang along to the songs, danced during periods of transition, stood up for us when others didn’t understand, and embraced every new chapter. You transformed the band name “Blondie” into a movement, an emotion, and a cultural pulse that has reverberated much beyond the stage. We have risen above any chart position thanks to your loyalty, inventiveness, and pure joy.
Thank you to the Blondie community throughout the world—artists, misfits, activists, and lovers of color, chaos, sound, style, and beauty—for creating a space where uniqueness is not only welcomed but also honored. I felt bold enough to speak my truth, safe enough to try new things, and courageous enough to keep changing because of the world you made. You made it possible for me and the rest of us to be shamelessly ourselves—raw, glamorous, vulnerable, and outrageous.
I look forward with appreciation and excitement. The energy we produced together is ageless, even if the world is constantly changing. There are still adventures to pursue, memories to create, and music to compose.
I am grateful for your love, support, and haven, which helped shape who I am today.
With boundless affection,
Debbie Harry
