An Epic Epochal Open Letter From Luka Dončić to the Dallas Mavericks, Fans, and the Entire Community…see details

To the city of Dallas, the Mavericks organization, and the fans who have made this journey unforgettable:

When I first arrived in Dallas, I was a teenager with big dreams, a love for the game, and an eagerness to prove myself on the NBA stage. What I didn’t realize was how much this city, this team, and each of you would mean to me. Now, as I reflect on these incredible years, I feel compelled to share my deepest gratitude and commitment in this letter.

From the moment I first pulled on the Mavericks jersey, I could feel the weight of its history and the legacy of legends who came before me. I knew I had to honor that legacy while striving to create my own. I knew I was stepping into the shadow of greatness, not just on the court but in the community. Dallas is more than just a sports city—it is a family, and I am proud to call myself part of it.

To Mark Cuban, the Mavericks’ staff, and my teammates:

You believed in a kid from Slovenia and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. You’ve surrounded me with incredible teammates, brilliant coaching, and the resources to excel at every level. Together, we’ve celebrated thrilling victories, overcome heart-wrenching losses, and pushed the boundaries of what we thought possible. The locker room has been a sanctuary—a place where dreams are nurtured and battles are prepared for. Every practice, every film session, and every game has been a testament to our shared passion and determination.

To the fans, the heartbeat of this organization:

You are the ones who fill the American Airlines Center with thunderous energy, who paint the city blue and white, and who remind us why we fight so hard on that court. You’ve welcomed me as one of your own, teaching me about Texas pride and the unwavering spirit of Dallas. Whether it’s chanting “Luka Magic” in the final seconds or standing by us during tough times, your loyalty fuels us. Every cheer, every wave of support, every tweet, and every jersey worn is a reminder of the love we share for this game and for this team.

To the city of Dallas and its people:

This city is more than just my workplace; it’s my home. I’ve watched it grow as it has watched me grow. From visiting schools and hospitals to walking through its vibrant neighborhoods, I’ve seen firsthand the resilience, kindness, and hope that define Dallas. You’ve taught me that being a Maverick is about so much more than basketball—it’s about being a part of something larger, something meaningful.

To the next chapter:

I know our work is far from finished. There are championships to win, legacies to cement, and moments to create that will live on forever. I promise you that my dedication to this team and this city is stronger than ever. Every time I step onto the court, I play for the name on the front of the jersey and for the community that stands behind it.

Thank you for giving me a place to grow, to shine, and to belong. Together, we’ve created memories that will last a lifetime, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. This is not just my journey; it’s ours.

Forever a Maverick,

Luka Dončić
