To the Fighting Irish Family.
As I reflect on my time under the Golden Dome, I am reminded of the honor it was to wear the blue and gold, compete in Notre Dame Stadium, and grow – not just as a football player, but as a human being. Notre Dame molded me in ways that went far beyond the football field, and I write today with tremendous respect and thanks to the coaches, players, fans, and community who continue to carry on our illustrious tradition.
Coach Marcus Freeman, your leadership has breathed new life into this program. You have embraced this institution’s ideals of integrity, tenacity, and dedication to greatness. As you mentor these young guys, you are shaping far more than just football players. You are helping to shape tomorrow’s leaders.
To all current Fighting Irish athletes, please remember that playing for Notre Dame is both an honor and a duty. You are an example of excellence not only in college football, but in life. We don’t just play the game; we plan for greatness beyond it. That is what it means to “play like the pros.”
Playing like a pro begins with preparation. It’s about learning the fundamentals, showing up every day with purpose, and holding yourself accountable on and off the field. It’s about respecting your teammates, coaches, and the privilege of representing our university.
But more than that, it’s about developing the entire athlete. Invest on mental strength. Develop emotional intelligence. Encourage academic brilliance. Because, while the game may change after you leave Notre Dame, the ideals you learn here will define everything you do – from boardrooms to communities, families to fields of service.
I encourage the university and sports department to continue supporting overall athlete development, including leadership training, health and wellness support, and real-world skill development. Our student-athletes deserve an atmosphere that prepares them for all aspects of success.
To the fans and alumni: your dedication, resounding cheers, and unshakable belief in our squad continue to be the Fighting Irish’s heartbeat. Your support is a powerful force that boosts morale and confidence. Never underestimate your ability to shape the culture of our cherished program.
