An Open Letter from Mike Elko to Texas A&M Football, Fans, and the Whole Aggie Community
To the 12th Man, Texas A&M Football, and the whole Aggie family,
As I sit down to write this letter, I am overcome by gratitude and emotion. The past several years at Texas A&M have been some of the most satisfying and defining times of my career. This university, this football program, and the great individuals who make up the Aggie community have influenced me in ways that I will always appreciate.
From the time I stepped onto Kyle Field, I felt the 12th Man’s intensity, passion, and indomitable spirit. There is nothing like it. Coaching at Texas A&M has been more than a job; it has been an honour, a privilege, and a deeply personal experience. Every time I saw our players walk the pitch and heard the fans yell, I was reminded of why I originally fell in love with the game.
To my players, you are the heart and soul of our program. Your unwavering dedication, commitment to greatness, and belief in one another have made this team what it is. I’ve been so delighted to watch you develop as young men, not just athletes. The lessons we’ve learnt together—about hard work, perseverance, and unity—will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Thank you to the coaching staff, administration, and everyone else who worked so hard behind the scenes. The labour you put in every day, the sacrifices you make, and your undying commitment in this program are what maintain Texas A&M Football one of the finest in the country.
And there are no words to explain how grateful I am to Aggie fans. Your support, loyalty, and passion are unparalleled. Whether it was standing up through the highs or banding together during the lows, you have demonstrated what it means to be a member of the Aggie family.
As I move on to my next chapter, please know that Texas A&M will always have a special place in my heart. This program is designed for greatness, and I have no doubt that the future is quite bright.
