In a recent news conference, Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire responded to comments made by ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who had previously criticised the Big 12 conference’s competitiveness. McGuire, known for his honest demeanour, did not hesitate to defend his team and conference.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous,” McGuire said about Herbstreit’s comments. “To claim that the Big 12 doesn’t measure up is ridiculous. This conference consistently produces some of the most competitive football in the nation.”

McGuire is frustrated by a perceived bias in national media coverage, which frequently favours leagues such as the SEC and Big Ten. He emphasised the Big 12’s strength and depth, as well as his team’s tough competition each season.

“Every game is a battle,” McGuire added. “Our players work hard, and it shows on the pitch. It’s about time the national narrative reflected that.”

This is not the first time McGuire has spoken out about media views. Earlier this season, he questioned the College Football Playoff selection committee’s appraisal of the Big 12, calling it “absolutely embarrassing.”

McGuire’s remarks aroused debate among fans and pundits alike. Some people back his defence of the Big 12, while others believe that media scrutiny is part of the game. Regardless, McGuire’s enthusiasm for his club and conference is clear.

As the season advances, the Red Raiders will have opportunities to showcase their abilities on the field. McGuire feels confident in his team’s potential and intends to let their performance speak louder than any analyst’s criticism.

“At the end of the day, it’s about what happens between the lines,” McGuire stated. “We’re focused on playing our game and showing everyone what Texas Tech football is all about.”
