Done Deal : New York Giants sign 2 ex-Kansas City Chiefs to futures contracts

The New York Giants have bolstered their roster by signing two former Kansas City Chiefs players to reserve/future contracts: defensive end Breeland Speaks and cornerback Ekow Boye-Doe.

Breeland Speaks

Selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, Speaks showcased versatility across multiple positions, including outside linebacker, defensive end, and defensive tackle. In his rookie season, he participated in all 16 games, recording 24 tackles, 1.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Unfortunately, a knee injury during the 2019 preseason sidelined him for the entire year, and subsequent challenges, including a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, led to his release in 2020. Since then, Speaks has spent time on the practice squads of the Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. The Giants are optimistic that Speaks can recapture the potential he exhibited during his early career.

Ekow Boye-Doe

An undrafted free agent from Kansas State, Boye-Doe signed with the Chiefs in 2023. He appeared in six regular-season games during their Super Bowl-winning campaign and participated in one playoff game. Despite his contributions, Boye-Doe was released during the 2024 preseason. The Giants see promise in his athleticism and experience, aiming to enhance their depth in the secondary.

These signings reflect the Giants’ commitment to identifying and developing talent with the potential to contribute meaningfully in the upcoming season.
