Pat White Returns to West Virginia as Assistant Coach
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Pat White, one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in West Virginia University (WVU) history, is returning to the Mountaineers as an assistant coach. The former record-breaking signal-caller will now contribute to the program in a new role, bringing his wealth of experience and deep connection to WVU football.
White, who played for the Mountaineers from 2005 to 2008, left a lasting legacy as one of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in college football history. He set numerous records, including becoming the first quarterback in NCAA history to win four consecutive bowl games. White led West Virginia to victories in the Sugar Bowl, Gator Bowl, and two Fiesta Bowls, cementing his status as one of the program’s all-time greats.
During his time at WVU, White accumulated over 10,000 total yards and 100 touchdowns, making him one of the most productive players in school history. His ability to dominate both in the air and on the ground helped revolutionize the spread offense and made West Virginia a powerhouse in the mid-2000s.
After his collegiate career, White was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Though his time in the NFL was brief, he later played in other professional leagues and transitioned into coaching. White has gained experience as an assistant at several schools, including South Florida and Alabama State.
Now, he returns to Morgantown to help guide the next generation of Mountaineers. While WVU has not yet announced his specific coaching role, his experience as a quarterback and offensive innovator suggests he will play a key part in developing the team’s offensive strategy.
Fans and alumni are thrilled to see White back with the program, hoping his leadership and knowledge will have a significant impact on West Virginia’s success moving forward. His return marks not only a homecoming but also a new chapter in the Mountaineers’ pursuit of excellence.
