Jett Lawrence Part-Ways with Honda HRC, AMA Supercross, Terminates Contract Due to Unexpected Events

In a surprising turn of events, Australian motocross sensation Jett Lawrence has announced the termination of his contract with Team Honda HRC, effectively ending their partnership in the AMA Supercross Championship. This decision comes on the heels of a significant injury Lawrence sustained during the Glendale, Arizona, round of the championship.
Early in the third race at the Glendale Triple Crown, Lawrence dabbed his right foot in a corner to maintain his balance and immediately pulled off the track in pain. An initial visit to the Alpinestars Mobile Medical unit didn’t reveal any serious injury, but an MRI scan the following day revealed that Lawrence had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, as well as a small tear to his meniscus. He underwent surgery shortly thereafter in Orange County, California.
The injury effectively ended Lawrence’s chance of a successful title defense, as he was fifth in the standings with 71 points at the time, trailing points leader Chase Sexton by 13 points.
In a statement released by Team Honda HRC, Lawrence expressed his disappointment: “It’s devastating to end the season this way, especially after all the hard work and preparation. I want to thank Honda and the entire team for their unwavering support throughout my career. This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it’s the best course of action for my recovery and future in the sport.”
Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing and Advertising at American Honda, commented on the development: “We’re all absolutely gutted for Jett, as we had high hopes for him winning another Supercross title this season. His speed has been very impressive, and it’s unfortunate to see his season cut short. We respect his decision and wish him a swift recovery.”
