In a significant development for college football, quarterback Harrison Bailey has once again entered the NCAA transfer portal, marking his third transfer since beginning his collegiate career. Bailey, who started at the University of Tennessee, has had subsequent stints at UNLV and the University of Louisville.
Tennessee Tenure
Bailey joined the Tennessee Volunteers as a highly touted four-star recruit in the 2020 class. During his freshman season, he appeared in six games, starting the final three. He completed 48 of 68 passes for 578 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. Despite showing promise, the arrival of head coach Josh Heupel and transfer quarterbacks Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton in 2021 altered the quarterback landscape at Tennessee. Bailey saw limited action that season, participating in only one game before deciding to enter the transfer portal in October 2021.
Transition to UNLV
In January 2022, Bailey transferred to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). During the 2022 season, he played in six games, throwing for 318 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. His role was primarily as a backup, and seeking more playing time, Bailey entered the transfer portal again in April 2023.
Stint at Louisville
Bailey’s next move was to the University of Louisville in May 2023, where he joined as a preferred walk-on. He saw limited action during the 2023 season, appearing in one game against Murray State and throwing a touchdown pass. In the 2024 season, Bailey served as the backup to Tyler Shough. However, ahead of the 2024 Sun Bowl, Shough opted out, and Bailey was named the starting quarterback. In his first start for Louisville, he led the team to a thrilling 35–34 victory over Washington, throwing for 164 yards and three touchdowns, earning the game’s MVP honors. Following this standout performance, Bailey announced in January 2025 that he would enter the transfer portal for the third time.
New Beginnings at Florida
Shortly after his announcement, on January 20, 2025, Bailey committed to the University of Florida. This move offers him another opportunity to compete at a high level and potentially secure a starting position in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Bailey’s journey reflects the evolving landscape of college football, where athletes seek optimal environments to showcase their talents and advance their careers.
As Bailey transitions to Florida, Gators fans and the broader college football community will be keen to see how his experience and resilience translate on the field in the
upcoming season.
