An open letter from Ben Shelton to the ATP, fans, and the entire tennis community.
Hello, ATP, Tennis Fans, and the Global Tennis Family.
As I take a moment to reflect on my journey in this incredible sport, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. From the very first time I went onto the court, to the fights fought on the largest stages, every moment has been influenced by the unfailing support, love, and encouragement of this community. Today, I want to convey my greatest appreciation to each and every one of you who has played a role in my evolution, both as a player and as a person.
To the ATP, thank you for giving the structure, opportunities, and platform that enabled me to compete at the top level. Your dedication to the sport and its players has enabled many of us to pursue our goals. The hard competition, the lessons learnt from each encounter, and the camaraderie shared among players have all contributed to my development as an athlete.
To the fans: your enthusiasm is the heartbeat of this sport. Whether you have cheered for me from the stands, followed my journey from afar, or just expressed your admiration for the sport of tennis, your enthusiasm inspires every rally, point, and triumph. The placards, chants, words of support, and even tough love during difficult times have all inspired me to work more, dig deeper, and always give my all.
To the entire tennis community—coaches, mentors, officials, organisers, and fellow players—you have made this sport more than just a job, but a home. The relationships formed, the lessons learnt, and the collective effort to shape tennis into what it is now inspire me beyond measure. This environment, which promotes resilience, respect, and continual progress, has enabled me to embrace obstacles, enjoy wins, and remain devoted to better every day.
Tennis has given me more than I could have imagined—lifelong memories, friendships, and a purpose that extends beyond the game itself. As I continue down this path, I do it with deep gratitude and the promise to give back to the sport that has given me so much.
Thank you for believing in me, supporting me, and being a part of this amazing adventure. The best has yet to come.
