An Open Letter from Connor McDavid to the Edmonton Oilers, Fans, and the Entire Oilers Community
To the incredible Edmonton Oilers family,
From the minute I first put on the Oilers uniform, I realized I was going into something bigger than myself. This team, this city, and this culture have influenced me not only as a player but as a person. Today, I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude for your constant love, support, and belief in me during my journey.
Edmonton is more than a hockey town; it is a family. From the loud fans at Rogers Place to the young youngsters lacing up their skates and dreaming of one day wearing this jersey, this city breathes hockey in a way that is truly unique. Every day, your passion, energy, and loyalty have driven me forward. Through every goal, assist, and struggle on the ice, I’ve felt the weight of your support propel me forward.
My teammates—past and present—are my brothers. The friendships and bonds we’ve formed are the foundation for everything we’ve accomplished. Every practice, every road trip, every high and low, we’ve been through it together, and I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything. Hockey is the ultimate team game, and I am honored to share the ice with such an incredible group of guys who proudly wear this crest.
To the coaches, training staff, and management, thank you for establishing an environment that has allowed me to grow, learn, and push my limitations. Your belief in me has never wavered, and your commitment to our organization is what makes the Oilers a team with such a rich past and a promising future.
And to the fans, thank you for making Edmonton your home. You’ve embraced me since the beginning, and your commitment to this team is unparalleled. Whether it’s the deafening cheers after a major win or the supportive voices through the terrible times, you have made every moment worth it. The love you exhibit for this team is why playing for the Oilers is such a privilege.
The voyage is far from over. Together, we will continue to strive for greatness, fuelled by the passion that defines Edmonton hockey’s heartland.
