Minnesota Wild head coach John Hynes recently disclosed that forward Mats Zuccarello suffered a ruptured testicle after being struck by a hockey puck during a game against the Montreal Canadiens. Despite wearing a protective cup, which was significantly dented from the impact, Zuccarello required immediate surgery. Fortunately, the procedure was successful, and he is expected to be sidelined for approximately four weeks as he recovers.
Teammate Marcus Foligno recounted the incident, noting that Zuccarello was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery that preserved the injured testicle. Foligno mentioned that Zuccarello’s protective cup had a “massive dent” from the impact.
Head coach John Hynes praised Zuccarello’s resilience and importance to the team, expressing confidence in his recovery. Zuccarello, 37, has been a pivotal player for the Wild, and his absence will be felt as the team navigates upcoming games.
