Sandy Alcántara’s Epochal Open Letter to the Miami Marlins, Fans, and the Marlins Community
Dear Miami Marlins family,
With a heart full of gratitude, humility, and deep reflection, I write this letter to communicate what words often fail to convey: my great gratitude to each and every one of you who has been a part of my journey as a pitcher for the Miami Marlins. From the minute I landed in this colorful city and put on the Marlins jersey for the first time, I felt I was jumping into something bigger than myself. What I didn’t realize at the time was how deeply this community would shape me, not just as an athlete, but also as a man.
You welcomed me with open arms. You believed in me through the ups and downs, every inning pitched and every obstacle encountered. Your persistent support has allowed me to develop into the player I am today. Whether it was screaming cheers booming through loanDepot Park or the modest encouragement of a child waving from the bleachers, your love was never forgotten. Miami, you have made me feel at home. You made me feel as though I belonged.
Thank you to the Marlins organization for having faith in my ability. For investing in me not only with contracts and chances, but also with trust, mentorship, and a stage to shine. The entire front office, coaching staff, trainers, and teammates—you’ve been my rock. You’ve pushed me to give my all every day and challenged me to grow as a leader on and off the field.
I proudly and purposefully carried our city’s name on my back. Every pitch I’ve made has been for Miami. Every victory has been for this community, which has never given up on me. You offered me a space to pursue my goals, and I have done everything in my power to repay that trust.
Thank you for showing up, fans. Thank you for the chants, placards, hope, and spirit. You’ve praised my accomplishments and supported me throughout difficult times. Your faith has never wavered, and I am eternally thankful. You are this team’s lifeblood, and I have been fortunate to experience that every time I hit the mound.
As I look ahead, whether we stay together or part ways in the future, please know that Miami will always be my home. The Marlins will always be in my blood. You made this part of my life unforgettable.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Sandy Alcántara, #22 – Miami Marlins
