Jayson Tatum Invests $3.6 Million to Create Shelter for Homeless Youth in Boston
Boston, MA – June 2, 2025 — Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is taking a bold step off the court to make a difference in the lives of the city’s most vulnerable. The NBA All-Star has invested $3.6 million of his own money to transform a historic Boston property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The shelter, which will be named “The Tatum House,” is expected to open in early 2026. It will offer not just safe, long-term housing, but also wraparound services including educational support, job training, mental health resources, and mentorship programs aimed at helping young people build stable, independent futures.
In a brief statement, Tatum shared the motivation behind his investment: “Growing up, I had people who believed in me and helped guide me. I know not everyone has that. This is my way of creating a space where kids can feel safe, supported, and seen.”
The facility will be operated in partnership with several Boston-based nonprofits specializing in youth services and homelessness prevention. The goal is to create a model that is not just reactive, but proactive—providing the tools necessary to break the cycle of poverty and housing insecurity.

This is not Tatum’s first foray into philanthropy. In 2024, he teamed up with SoFi to launch a $1 million homeownership initiative in his hometown of St. Louis.
