Breaking News: 4-star Alabama commit makes massive announcement about his recruitment…. more details.

In a stunning twist to the 2025 recruiting cycle, 4-star linebacker Marcus Jenkins, a top Alabama Crimson Tide commit, has made a massive announcement that could shake up the national recruiting landscape.

Jenkins, who committed to Alabama in January and is currently ranked as the No. 6 linebacker in the country by 247Sports, announced via social media late Tuesday evening that he will reopen his recruitment and take official visits this summer. The news comes as a surprise to many within the college football community, as Jenkins had been one of the most vocal supporters of Alabama’s 2025 class and had repeatedly stated his “full commitment” to the Tide.

“After talking things over with my family and coaches, I’ve decided to reopen my recruitment and explore all of my options before making a final decision,” Jenkins wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Alabama is still a top school for me, but I owe it to myself to make sure I’m 100% confident in my choice. This is the biggest decision of my life, and I want to take the time to do it right.”

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker from Buford High School (Georgia) has recently received increased interest from Georgia, Florida State, and Texas, all of whom are now expected to host Jenkins for official visits in June and July. According to sources close to his recruitment, Jenkins has already locked in a visit to Athens for June 22 and is in talks with Florida State about visiting Tallahassee in early July.

Recruiting insiders note that while Alabama remains firmly in the mix, Jenkins’ decision to open his recruitment may signal real momentum for other programs hoping to flip the elite defender. “This is a fluid situation now,” one SEC recruiting analyst said. “Jenkins wants to see how other programs stack up, and several staffs believe they have a real shot.”

For Alabama, the news represents a potential blow to what had been shaping up as one of the top defensive classes in the nation. However, with Nick Saban’s retirement and Kalen DeBoer still solidifying his identity in Tuscaloosa, questions surrounding long-term stability could be factoring into Jenkins’ change of heart.

Expect Jenkins to finalize his decision before the start of his senior season in August. Until then, the race is officially back on for one of the nation’s premier linebacker prospects.
