During a mission in Baghdad, she was injured by a rocket-propelled grenade and lost her left arm below the elbow. In the face of such a horrific injury, Green demonstrated the same fortitude that had defined her on the basketball court. She refused to allow this tragedy to define her, instead transforming her personal hardship into a mission of hope for others.
Green returned home and dedicated herself to assisting other soldiers in their healing and rebuilding efforts. She received a master’s degree in counseling and became an outspoken supporter of wounded warriors and military families. Working with the Department of warriors Affairs and charitable organizations, Green has helped numerous warriors deal with physical injuries, post-traumatic stress, and the arduous transition to civilian life. Her sensitivity, strength, and unrelenting commitment have left an indelible impression on those she helps.
Receiving the Pat Tillman Award for Service is an appropriate honor to Green’s outstanding life.
