Dear Carolina Hurricanes family, fans, and the entire Hurricanes community,
As I ponder on my trip thus far, I am struck with profound gratitude and tremendous emotion. I felt it was necessary to write to you all, not just as your centerman, but as someone who calls Raleigh home and considers the entire Hurricanes community to be part of my extended family. This open letter is written from the heart to express my gratitude for the love, support, and belief you have shown me throughout my tenure here.
You welcomed me with open arms from the minute I arrived in Raleigh, as a young kid from Finland seeking his ambition. I was thousands of kilometers away from my birthplace, yet because to you all, I never felt disconnected. You established an environment in which I could not just adapt, but thrive – as a player, teammate, and individual. Your encouragement inspired me to push myself to new heights and strive for improvement every day.
I will be eternally grateful to the Hurricanes organization, including ownership, management, coaches, and the entire staff. You believed in me when I was only a draft prospect, and you’ve been with me through the highs and lows, every goal achieved and every setback encountered. The culture of quality, respect, and hard work that you’ve established behind these walls has allowed me to develop not only as an athlete, but also as a leader. I am pleased to wear this jersey and represent this fantastic team.
Thank you to my teammates, past and present, for the bond we’ve shared. I’ll always treasure the locker room memories, the battles on the ice, the exhilaration of victory, and even the lessons learnt from defeat. You have inspired, challenged, and supported me like brothers. We’ve created something unique together, and I’m looking forward to the future.
And to the fans – the passionate, loyal, and dynamic force that distinguishes Carolina hockey — I cannot convey how much you mean to me. Every time I go onto the ice at PNC Arena and hear Caniac Nation roar, I feel an overwhelming feeling of pride and duty. Your cries, applause, and steadfast support throughout the season have made my journey unforgettable. You have been our strength in difficult times and our greatest joy in triumph.
Raleigh and the entire Hurricanes community have exceeded all of my expectations. You have encouraged my development, welcomed me as one of your own, and created an environment in which aspirations can fly. I commit to keep giving my all for the crest on my breast, for this team, and for everyone who has made this trip so special.
With sincere gratitude and love,
Sebastian Aho
