Texas Tech Targets 3-Star OL Tripp Skewes to Bolster Offensive Line
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech continues to focus on building up its offensive line in the 2025 recruiting class, and the latest name to emerge on the radar is Tripp Skewes, a 3-star offensive lineman who has quickly become one of the Red Raiders’ top remaining targets.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 290 pounds, Skewes brings ideal size and physical tools for the next level. Currently rated as a 3-star recruit by multiple major scouting outlets, he has picked up interest from a number of Power Five programs across the country. However, Texas Tech has been making a strong push and recently hosted him for an official visit.
Sources close to the program say the visit went extremely well. Skewes reportedly connected with the Red Raiders’ coaching staff and came away impressed with the facilities, the culture under head coach Joey McGuire, and the opportunity for early development and playing time in Lubbock.
“They’re building something real here,” Skewes said following the visit. “I had great conversations with Coach McGuire and Coach Hamby. I felt like I could really fit into their system, not just on the field, but off it too.”
Texas Tech’s offensive line has been an area of emphasis since McGuire took over the program. The staff has made recruiting size and versatility up front a key part of their long-term roster strategy. Skewes fits that mold well, with the potential to play either guard or tackle at the college level depending on team needs.
His film shows a lineman with a strong initial punch, solid footwork in pass protection, and the ability to finish blocks in the run game — traits that Texas Tech believes can be developed further in their system.
Skewes has also drawn attention from schools in the Big 12, SEC, and Big Ten, but Texas Tech is believed to be among the frontrunners. With several offensive line spots opening up after the 2025 season, the Red Raiders are offering a clear path to playing time, which could factor heavily into his decision.
The Kansas native is expected to announce his commitment decision later this summer. If he chooses Texas Tech, he would be one of the higher-rated offensive linemen in the Red Raiders’ current class and a key addition for the future of the offense.
