Chris Klieman, head coach of Kansas State University football, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to both elite-level accomplishment and community empowerment. This award recognizes not just his accomplishments on the field, but also his tireless efforts to promote grassroots football and community development throughout Kansas.
Klieman, who was hired in December 2018, has built an excellence culture in Manhattan. With an excellent 48-28 record at Kansas State and a 75% total career win rate—ranking fourth among FBS coaches with at least ten years at the helm—he has swiftly established his reputation. During his tenure, he led the team to a Big 12 Championship in 2022, five wins against in-state rival Kansas, and multiple bowl berths, including postseason victory. In 2023, the program has generated 17 All-Big-12 honors and 45 Academic All-Big-12 accolades, marking a new program record.
However, Coach Klieman’s impact stretches far beyond victory. With the notion that “how you do one thing is how you do everything,” he has created a curriculum based on honesty, relational leadership, and community accountability. He implemented an open-door policy, inviting players into his office to discuss football or life, fostering a culture of trust and personal development.
Off the field, Klieman has had a significant impact on the local community. In early 2025, he contributed his whole contract extension and a $250,000 bonus—along with a $15 million charitable pledge—to support homelessness, food security, mental health, youth mentoring, and affordable housing in Manhattan and Kansas. These contributions help boost shelters, food banks, and career-readiness programs, providing both immediate relief and long-term opportunities for low-income families.
Furthermore, his participation with the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), where he serves on the Board of Trustees, allows him to influence regulations affecting football development statewide.
Klieman’s hands-on commitment to youth football is also noteworthy: from recruiting clinics in Kansas high schools to welcoming youth coaches and players to campus, he is actively promoting the game’s grassroots development. His ideology, which combines high standards, personal attention, and community engagement, has helped restore trust and excitement in Kansas State football.
