Legendary Foo Fighters leader and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has officially confirmed the 2026 Nirvana Band Global Tour, titled “The Tribute Concert (The Last Turn),” in an announcement that shocked the music industry. Grohl describes the announcement as “a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of the music that changed everything,” and it was made public via his social media accounts and a special press conference in Los Angeles.
Starting in April 2026, the international tour will pay tribute to the lasting legacy of Nirvana, the groundbreaking grunge group that transformed rock music in the early 1990s. With over 30 locations globally, including significant stops in Seattle, London, Tokyo, Berlin, and SΓ£o Paulo, this will be the biggest tribute to the band ever planned. “A spiritual reunion” and “a way to honor the fire that never truly went out” are how Grohl characterized the occasion.

“Nirvana was more than a bandβit was an emotion, a voice for the unheard, and a reminder that imperfection is power,” Grohl added in an emotional statement. This tour is about honoring the influence of what Kurt, Krist, and I achieved together, as well as the millions of fans who helped keep the music alive, rather than trying to recreate the past.
Krist Novoselic, the original bassist for Nirvana, will join Grohl on stage along with a rotating cast of special guest vocalists and guitarists, featuring some of the biggest stars in alternative rock today. According to people close to the project, Billie Eilish, Jack White, St. Vincent, and Post Malone may make appearances. Each of them would perform a few Nirvana classics in their own way. An immersive stage design featuring historical video, never-before-seen pictures of Kurt Cobain, and personal storytelling moments from Grohl and Novoselic themselves is anticipated for the concerts.
Classic songs like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Come As You Are,” “Heart-Shaped Box,” and “All Apologies” will be performed. However, Grohl also hinted at “a few surprises,” which might include unreleased songs and joint ventures honoring Cobain’s influence across genres.
Online reactions to the announcement have been intensely emotional. Fans of various ages have expressed appreciation for what many refer to as a “full-circle moment.” Some see it as an opportunity to relive history, while others see it as their first chance to hear Nirvana perform live.
“This isn’t a farewellβit’s a thank you,” Grohl said as he wrapped up his announcement, perfectly capturing the essence of the endeavor. For Kurt. For the admirers. For the music that is still alive.
Early in 2026, tickets for The Last Turn will go on sale. A percentage of the sales will go to charities that assist mental health and addiction rehabilitation, topics that are closely related to Cobain’s legacy and the band’s message of authenticity and empathy.
