Running back Omar Mabson was a 2026 recruit, but he felt prepared to attend college and could do so academically, so he reclassified to the 2025 class.

From Auburn High School in Auburn, Alabama, it made too much sense for Mabson to change anything now that he’ll be starting college a year early.

Despite Alabama and North Carolina’s efforts to recruit him, an official visit this past weekend sealed the deal for Mabson and the Tigers.

“Just everything about Auburn,” Mabson told 247Sports’ Christian Clemente about his commitment to Hugh Freeze and the Tiers. “Home, coaches, relationships—everything about it. It’s nice to be at home, but I’m not going to stay there. I’ll treat it like if I’m in California or somewhere. I’m handling it as if I’m going to college to play football and aspire to the NFL. I don’t have to worry about being at home while doing these actions. I only have to worry about being in college.”

That’s an excellent perspective for a young guy who will attend college less than ten minutes from his high school.

In high school, Mabson was an effective running back for the Auburn High School Tigers. This previous season, he carried 194 times for 1,515 yards and 29 touchdowns.

He’ll now get the opportunity to do it at the college level.

“I’m very excited, and I’m ready to compete,” Mabson stated. “War Eagle.”

According to 247Sports, Mabson is the No. 86 running back prospect in the 2025 class.
