An Epochal Open Letter by Anthony Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts, Fans, and the Entire Colts Community
Dear Colts family,
As I sit down to compose this letter, I’m overcome with appreciation and reflection. The adventure I’ve begun on with the Indianapolis Colts has been nothing short of miraculous, not only for my profession but also for me personally. Today, I’d like to offer my heartfelt gratitude to the organisation, the fans, and the entire Colts community for their unfailing support, love, and belief in me since the beginning.
When I initially arrived in Indianapolis, I was full of ambition and a strong desire to prove myself at the top level of football. But nothing could have prepared me for the kindness and encouragement I received from this amazing community. From the front office, coaching staff, and my teammates, to every single fan that filled Lucas Oil Stadium with zeal and pride, you all became more than just fans—you became family.
Thank you, Colts organisation, for believing in me and allowing me to proudly wear the horseshoe on my helmet. The faith you placed in me as a quarterback was a responsibility I accepted with pride. Your commitment to my development, both on and off the pitch, created an environment in which I could thrive. Our coaches’ direction, locker room leadership, and the passion of every staff member made it evident that I was a part of something truly exceptional. You invested in me not only as a player, but also as a person.
To my teammates, you are more than just colleagues; you are brothers. The fights we battled on the field, the long hours spent practicing, and the camaraderie in the locker room formed relationships that will last a lifetime. You pushed me to improve, held me accountable, and celebrated every accomplishment, large or small, as a team. I’ll always remember the memories we had together.
And to the Colts fans, words cannot express how much you mean to me. Your constant support, through highs and lows, has fuelled my desire to give my all in every game. Whether it was the roar of the crowd on game days, the sea of blue in the stands, or the personal notes of support I got, your enthusiasm reminded me of why I fell in love with this sport in the first place. You accepted me as one of your own, and I am eternally thankful.
Indianapolis has become more than just the city where I played football; it is now my home. The community greeted me with open arms, and I was fortunate to witness firsthand the passion, tenacity, and kindness that constitute this wonderful city. From community outreach programs to impromptu contacts with fans throughout town, each occasion has demonstrated the unique affinity between this squad and its supporters.
As I continue on my path, I will carry the lessons, experiences, and love that I have received from the Colts community with me. You helped form me into the athlete and person I am today. No matter where my life takes me, Indianapolis will always be a special spot in my heart.
Thank you for everything. I am proud to have been a part of this legendary brand, and even more proud to be a part of this great community. The horseshoe is more than simply a symbol; it signifies the Colts’ heart, passion, and solidarity, which make them genuinely unique.
