Nebraska is now in the Dylan Raiola era, but one of the challenges of coaching college football in 2025 and beyond is always looking about the future.
Heck, in the transfer portal and NIL age, even Raiola is not assured to stay at Nebraska for his entire collegiate career. In fact, head coach Matt Rhule and the Huskers were fortunate to keep him in town for his sophomore season.
That makes recruiting victories for future classes vital, and Rhule and Nebraska recently secured a significant one at quarterback.
Trae Taylor, a four-star quarterback from Mundelein, Illinois, committed to Nebraska on Thursday.
He picked Nebraska over offers from LSU, Michigan, and Texas A&M, while he currently has around 40 offers as a 2027 recruit.
According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, Taylor has been silently committed to the Huskers for two weeks, but he allegedly decided Thursday was the best day to reveal the truth.
He told Wiltfong that he believes Rhule and co-offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas can help him develop both on and off the field. Taylor’s commitment appears to be firm as long as the two lead Nebraska’s offense.
Even if things change at the top, the four-star spoke favorably of the Nebraska experience overall.
“What makes Nebraska so cool is their fanbase,” Taylor remarked. “It’s the best fanbase I’ve ever encountered, and I’ve seen some of the best. We’re talking LSU, South Carolina, Michigan, and Nebraska has surpassed all of them by far.”

“Just the city, the town alone, the vibe fits me better,” Taylor was saying. “My life will truly be surrounded by football and I don’t have to worry about anything else around me.”
Ultimately, this is a significant commitment for Nebraska if the Huskers can retain it.
Taylor is ranked third among 2027 quarterbacks by the 247Sports Composite.
