An Epochal Open Letter from Alissa Pili to the Minnesota Lynx, Fans, and the Whole Lynx Community
To the incredible Minnesota Lynx organization, the loyal fans, and the entire Lynx community:
As I ponder on my trip so far, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and humility. It is not every day that a young girl from Anchorage, Alaska, has the opportunity to realize her goals on one of professional sports’ largest stages. And now, here I am—writing this letter not only as a basketball player, but as a woman whose life has been permanently transformed by this community’s unflinching support, love, and belief.
From the moment I walked into the Target Center, I felt the intensity, passion, and history that distinguishes the Minnesota Lynx. I realized right away that I wasn’t just joining a team; I was becoming a member of a family. A legacy. A force. You welcomed me with open arms.
Thank you, coaching staff and front office, for believing in me. Thank you for seeing my talent, encouraging me to improve, and allowing me to develop as a player and a leader. Your advice, trust, and constant pursuit of excellence have helped me improve my game in ways I never expected. You saw not only who I was, but who I may become—for which I will be eternally thankful.
Thank you, teammates—my sisters in battle—for motivating me every day. Your strength, heart, and dedication to greatness have taught me more than words can convey. We’ve overcome adversity, enjoyed achievements, and created memories that will last a lifetime. The friendships we’ve formed extend beyond basketball. They are lifelong.
And to the fans—Lynx Nation—thank you for the loudness, cheers, placards, messages, and steadfast support. You’ve pulled me up when I was down, given me strength when I needed it, and celebrated with me at every highlight and hard-fought victory. Your belief in me has meant everything. You’ve demonstrated that this game is more than simply numbers on a scoreboard; it’s about heart, community, and legacy.
This isn’t a goodbye; it’s a thank you. I sincerely appreciate the impact each of you has had in my growth and development. The trip is far from done, and I am more driven than ever to give my all—on and off the court—to respect this jersey and this city.
We’ve created something great together. And I am forever grateful to be a part of it.
