An Open Letter from Billie Joe Armstrong.
To my Green Day bandmates, our amazing fans, and the entire Green Day community,
There are moments in life that cause you to halt, ponder, and genuinely appreciate your trip. It’s one of those moments. Today, I’d like to take a step back and thank you all for your love, support, and unshakeable belief in me—not only as a singer, but as a person.
To Mike and Tré, you are more than just bandmates; you are my brothers. We’ve gone through everything together, from playing in garages to performing on some of the world’s largest stages. We’ve written songs that defined decades, experienced both highs and lows, and never lost sight of why we started doing this in the first place: the music. Our friendship is solid, and I would not have wanted to go on this trip with anybody else. Thank you for supporting me through every note, tour, and moment of craziness and beauty that comes with being a member of Green Day.
Our fans are the lifeblood of this band, and you are the reason we are still around. From the front row of dive bars to sold-out arenas, you’ve sang, screamed, and incorporated our songs into your lives in ways I never could have predicted. You’ve told your story, etched our words on your body, and made this music your own. That means more to me than words can possibly convey.
Thank you to the whole Green Day community, including everyone who has ever contributed to our journey—producers, crew members, managers, and friends we’ve made along the way—for believing in what we do. You assisted us in making our desire a reality, something long-lasting, and something that has brought people from all over the world together.
Looking back, I never dreamed that three Bay Area youngsters, inspired by punk rock and a dream, would still be here decades later. But here we are, still playing, writing, pushing limits, and believing that music has the ability to transform lives.
This isn’t only my tale. This is our tale. And as long as you’re here singing along, Green Day will be around.
With all of my love and gratitude.
Billie Joe Armstrong
