An Epochal Open Letter from Derrick Green to Sepultura, Fans, and the Whole Sepultura Community
To my brothers in Sepultura, our fans, and the whole Sepultura community,
As I reflect on the fantastic journey we’ve taken together, I’m filled with gratitude for the love, support, and unrelenting energy that has sustained me during my time with Sepultura. This band, this family, has represented more than just music; it has been a force, a movement, and a way of life. From the moment I took on this responsibility, I knew I had big shoes to fill, but I also knew I was part of something bigger than generations and countries.
First and foremost, I want to thank my bandmates. Thank you for receiving me with open arms, encouraging me to improve, and believing in my voice and vision. We have surmounted hurdles, defied expectations, and carried on the tradition of this iconic band. From the raw fury of Against to the thunderous strength of Quadra, every album, show, and event we’ve shared has proven Sepultura to be an unstoppable force.
Fans, you are the heartbeat of our band. From São Paulo streets to European festivals, North American underground scenes, and Asia’s impassioned masses, you have embraced me and given me power beyond words. Your chants, mosh pits, and unrelenting support have made this journey unforgettable. I’ve witnessed your dedication, felt your energy, and been inspired by your passion. Thank you for believing in me, coming up, and repeatedly demonstrating that Sepultura is more than simply a band; it is a global brotherhood and sisterhood of metal fighters.
I am immensely grateful to the Sepultura community for providing an environment in which I may develop, mature, and freely express myself. This voyage has been a defining moment in my life, moulding me not only as a musician but also as a person. I’ll remember the music we made, the messages we shared, and the effect we had together for the rest of my life.
As the next phase begins, please know that my passion for Sepultura and its tremendous legacy will never fade. Thank you all for taking me on this unforgettable journey. We are Sepultura, and we will endure forever!
