An Epochal Open Letter from Frances Bean Cobain.

To all of my father’s loyal fans, Nirvana band members, and the entire Kurt Cobain community,

There are times in life when words seem inadequate, and this is one of them. Nonetheless, I am sending this letter to express my heartfelt gratitude and enormous admiration for your unwavering love and support—not only for me, but also for my father’s legacy.

For decades, you have kept his spirit alive. You have continued to honour him in timeless ways through his music, words, and artistry. Every time I hear a Nirvana song playing on a crowded street, receive a handwritten note from a fan, or see how deeply his lyrics continue to resonate with new generations, I am reminded of my father’s immense influence on the globe.

To Krist and Dave, my dad’s bandmates, you were more than just musicians standing beside him—you were his brothers. You shared dreams, laughter, struggles, and success with him in ways few could understand. The music you created together continues to shape lives, and I know he would be proud of how you have honored his memory. I am grateful for the love and guidance you have shown me over the years, as well as for the legacy you continue to build through your own journeys.

Krist and Dave, my father’s colleagues, were more than just musicians standing by his side; you were brothers. You shared dreams, laughs, hardships, and triumphs with him in ways that few could comprehend. The music you made together continues to affect people’s lives, and I’m sure he’d be proud of how you honoured his memory. I am grateful for the love and advice you have shown me throughout the years, as well as the legacy you are creating through your own journeys.

To the Nirvana and Kurt Cobain community, your love and respect for my father have given me comfort and strength. It has taken me years to completely realise the magnitude of his impact, but with your constant support, I feel less alone in bearing the weight of his legacy. You remind me that his narrative is not only one of pain, but also of inspiration, transformation, and artistic freedom.

As I continue to grow and discover my own way, I carry his spirit with me, just as you do. Thank you for honouring his legacy, praising his creativity, and demonstrating to the world how genuineness and real passion can transform people’s lives.

With love and thanks.
Frances Bean Cobain
