An Epochal Open Letter from Flau’jae Johnson to the LSU Tigers Women’s Basketball Team, Fans, and the Entire Tiger Community
Dear LSU Tigers family,
I felt at home the instant I came onto campus. The love, energy, and constant support of everyone in this program, university, and community has molded my journey in ways I could not have anticipated. Today, when I reflect on my time as a Tiger, I am filled with appreciation.
Playing for the LSU Women’s Basketball Team has been a dream come true. Every practice, game, and moment spent with the purple and gold has been about more than simply basketball; it’s about legacy, family, and a shared desire to greatness. The dedication that permeates this program, from my wonderful teammates to the coaching staff, is unparalleled. Coach Mulkey believed in me from the beginning, encouraging me to be the best version of myself on and off the court. Under her guidance, I’ve matured not only as a player but also as a person, learning the importance of discipline, resilience, and hard effort.
To my teammates, my sisters: we’ve fought together, laughed together, and supported each other through every challenge. I wouldn’t be who I am now without everyone of you. The ties we’ve built extend beyond the courtroom, and I’m confident they will last a lifetime. You have improved me in every aspect, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
Tiger Nation, you are genuinely special. From the crowded PMAC to the innumerable words of support, your enthusiasm and passion motivate us every game. Your love and support motivates us to play harder, train longer, and battle for every victory. LSU has the best fan base in the world, and I am extremely fortunate to be a part of it.
To the LSU community and administration, thank you for establishing an atmosphere in which student-athletes can thrive. This university is built on greatness, and being a part of such a prestigious program is a privilege that I will never take for granted. The opportunity, resources, and conviction in my own abilities have enabled me to pursue my dreams boldly.
Finally, to my family: thank you for being my rock. Your sacrifices, prayers, and unwavering love have helped me get through every high and low. Every step I take aims to make you proud.
LSU has provided me with more than just a place to play basketball; it has given me a home, a purpose, and a family that will remain in my heart forever. Regardless of where life leads me, I will always be a Tiger.
