An open letter from Jodie Foster to Hollywood, my fans, and the whole entertainment community.
Dear Hollywood, my amazing fans, and the entire entertainment community,
As I reflect on my journey, which began with a child going onto a film set, wide-eyed and full of amazement, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. This industry has served as my home, classroom, and proving ground. It has shaped me as an artist, storyteller, and individual. Today, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who has been by my side, supported me, and helped pave the path for a career that has been both rewarding and unpredictable.
I thank Hollywood, the ever-changing, complex, and intriguing world of storytelling, for giving me the opportunity to grow within its confines. From the beginning of my career, when I was learning the ropes in front of the camera, to the time I took the leap behind it as a director, you have given me the freedom to explore, create, and challenge both myself and the audience. In a continually changing industry, I have discovered my place, voice, and purpose. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
You, my fans, are the core of everything I do. Your steadfast support, good comments, and gratitude for the stories I’ve had the opportunity to share mean more to me than I can describe. Whether you’ve been following me since Taxi Driver or The Silence of the Lambs, or you’ve only lately discovered my work, you’re the reason I keep going. You remind me that film is more than simply entertainment; it is about connection, dialogue, and a shared experience that transcends time and geography. Thank you for growing alongside me, accepting my decisions, and allowing me to be more than one thing.
Thank you for your passion and dedication to the entertainment industry, from other performers to directors, writers, crew members, and everyone else who works behind the scenes to make tales come alive. This sector is not easy, but it is packed with the most talented, hard-working, and inspiring people I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. I am pleased to stand alongside you and to continue contributing to this art form that we all like.
