JT Toppin’s Reflective Open Letter to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Supporters, and the Whole Red Raider Community
Greetings, Red Raider Family
When I pause to think back on this amazing experience, I am overcome with appreciation. My gratitude for the Texas Tech community, my teammates, my coaches, and most importantly, the fervent Red Raider supporters who have stood by me during my time here, is beyond words.
I realised I was a part of something greater than basketball as soon as I set foot on this campus. Texas Tech is a family, a place that exudes tradition, tenacity, and everlasting support, and it is more than just a university. Knowing that I was representing a program based on perseverance, hard work, and the conviction that everything is achievable with the right attitude and the right people by your side gave me a great sense of pride every time I put on my Red Raider jersey.
I want to thank my coaches for having faith in me. Your advice, insight, and unwavering desire to help me become a better player and person have moulded me in ways that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. You have shown me that lessons gained via tenacity, cooperation, and sacrifice are more important indicators of success than simply the number of points on the scoreboard. I will always be thankful to you for providing me with the means to develop both on and off the court.
To my brothers, my teammates. Together, we have fought, laughed, and supported one another through wins and losses. There is something unique about our relationship that goes beyond basketball. I will always treasure the experience that was created by every practice, every road trip, and every time spent in the locker room. We shared struggles, developed as a team, and created lifelong memories. I appreciate you encouraging me, helping me, and being by my side the entire time.
You are the lifeblood of this program, Red Raider supporters. Every game at the United Supermarkets Arena will always be remembered because of your enthusiasm, fervour, and undying devotion. You supported us, encouraged us, and reminded us why we play this game with such passion, whether it was an exciting win or a difficult defeat. I will always remember the support and affection I’ve received from this community, which has meant the world to me.
Texas Tech has been a pivotal time in my life, not just a chapter in my basketball career. It has provided me with the groundwork to aim higher, put in more effort, and rise to any obstacle. I will always be a Red Raider at heart, regardless of where life leads me. This university, this program, and this community have made a lasting impression on me.
I’m grateful for everything, Texas Tech. This is a sincere “see-you-later,” not a farewell.
