Dear Washington Capitals fans and the entire Capitals community,

As I reflect on the great years I’ve spent wearing the Capitals shirt, I’m filled with appreciation for the love, support, and belief you’ve shown me from the start. This letter is my way of expressing thank you—for supporting me, celebrating alongside me, and fostering an atmosphere in which I can grow as a player and as a person.

Thank you to the Washington Capitals organisation for believing in me and bringing me into the family. From the moment I stepped on the ice as a Capital, I felt I was part of something unique. Your dedication to quality, creating a winning culture, and supporting your athletes has laid the groundwork for my progress. The coaches, staff, and players who have guided me along the road have helped me not only improve my game, but also gain confidence in myself on and off the ice. I am proud to be a part of this organisation.

To the fans, you are this team’s soul. Every time I step on the ice, your passion, intensity, and loyalty motivate me. From the raucous cheers at Capital One Arena to the sea of red in the stands, your support for this team—and for me as a player—has powered me through every struggle, goal, and hard-fought game. I’ll never forget the memories we’ve shared, from winning the Stanley Cup in 2018 to every shift played with passion and tenacity for this city. Your unflinching support is more valuable to me than words can explain.

Thank you to the entire Capitals community for making Washington feel like home. This city’s enthusiasm for hockey and sense of community have been absolutely inspirational. Whether it’s young fans looking up to us as role models or devoted fans who have been there through the highs and lows, you are the reason we fight harder every day.

This experience has been nothing short of fantastic, and I am grateful to have shared it with you all. Thank you for believing in me, challenging me to be better, and providing a place where I can grow into the player—and person—I am today. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and I promise to continue giving my all for this team, city, and community.

With all my thanks,

Tom Wilson
