An open letter from Salma Hayek to Hollywood, fans, and the entire entertainment community.
Dear Hollywood, my beloved fans, and the entire entertainment community,
As I sit down to write this letter, my heart is filled with gratitude and profound appreciation for the love, support, and opportunities that have formed my career in this profession. From the minute I made my first steps into Hollywood, I was confronted with hurdles, but I was also welcomed by a community that believed in me, encouraged me, and gave a platform for me to share meaningful tales. For that, I am eternally grateful.
To my fans, you’ve been my greatest source of strength. Your unfailing encouragement, good words, and belief in my craft have fuelled my passion every day. You’ve followed me through every role, applauded my accomplishments, and supported me during the tough times. Knowing that my work has touched you, inspired you, or just brought you joy means more to me than words can convey. You inspire me to push boundaries, take on big roles, and represent the voices that deserve to be heard.
Thank you, Hollywood, for welcoming a young Mexican woman with dreams too enormous to contain. When I first arrived, there were barriers that appeared insurmountable to overcome; yet, through patience, resilience, and the desire of so many to champion diversity, those barriers have begun to collapse. I am proud to have been a part of this shift, to have pushed for representation, and to watch a new generation of artists emerge in the spotlight with less constraints.
I owe so lot to my colleagues, mentors, and the innumerable creatives with whom I’ve collaborated. Every director, writer, producer, and colleague actor I’ve worked with has helped me grow. This industry is a wonderful symphony of brilliance, and I am honoured to have had a part in it.
Most importantly, thank you to the whole entertainment industry for cultivating an environment in which storytelling thrives, emotions are recorded, and aspirations take flight. The power of movies, television, and art is tremendous, and I am honoured to be a part of something that brings people together across countries and generations.
I sincerely thank you. I will continue to give my all, to lift others, and to uphold the confidence you have placed in me.
