Cameron Skattebo’s Epochal Open Letter to the Arizona State Sun Devils Football Team, Fans, and the Whole Sun Devils Community
Dear Sun Devil Nation.
As I ponder on this journey, I am filled with appreciation. It’s not often that you get to compose a letter packed with gratitude, reflection, and love. Today, I’d like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to the Arizona State Sun Devils football team, the dedicated fans, and the entire ASU community for welcoming me, believing in me, and providing me with a place to grow as a football player and as a man.
Coming to Arizona State was not just a career move; it was a calling. I came with goals in mind and ambitions in my heart, and from the moment I stepped onto the field at Sun Devil Stadium, I felt the enthusiasm, pride, and camaraderie that characterize what it means to wear maroon and gold. This community embraced me and demonstrated what it meant to be a Sun Devil—not just through victories and touchdowns, but also through endurance, accountability, and unity.
To my coaches, thank you for challenging me every day, believing in my potential, and entrusting me with the duty of representing this program on and off the field. Your leadership has shaped me in ways that will be with me for the rest of my life, not just football. The lessons you’ve taught me about grit, discipline, and showing up when things become tough have helped me become a better guy.
To my teammates, you are my brothers. We’ve been through the mill together. We have bled, sweated, cheered, and conquered defeats together. I’ll never forget the locker room conversations, the jokes, the long days in the Arizona sun, and how we always had each other’s backs. Thank you for pushing me, believing in me, and making this experience one that I will never forget.
To the Sun Devil Nation, you are the driving force behind everything we do. You came through the highs and lows, cheering us on and filling the stands with enthusiasm and pride. Whether it was at home or on the road, your support meant everything to us. Thank you for every chant, tailgate, and ounce of belief you put into our squad.
To the university and the Tempe community, thank you for providing me with a second home. Arizona State is more than just a football program. It is a family. It is a legacy. And I am honored to be a part of it.
As I embark on the next chapter of my life and profession, I carry everyone of you with me. The Sun Devil in me will never die. I am pleased of what we accomplished, but much more proud of the man this experience has helped me become.
Forever grateful. Always a Sun Devil.
With my whole heart,
Cameron Skattebo
