The quarterback position is the most scrutinized, with Steve Angeli, Kenny Minchey, and CJ Carr vying for the starting job. Angeli, a redshirt junior, adds experience, having started in the 2024 Sun Bowl and totaling 772 throwing yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. Minchey is a redshirt sophomore,Head coach Marcus Freeman has stated that the players’ performances will determine the timeline for naming a starter, which may not be clear until after summer workouts and early fall camp. Freshman CJ Carr has high expectations, adding intrigue to the competition.

Newcomers and underclassmen are competing for offensive positions, including wide receiver, where Jayden Harrison, Beaux Collins, and Kris Mitchell have joined incumbents Jordan Faison, Jayden Thomas, and Jaden Greathouse. Freshman Cam Williams is also vying for playing time and hopes to solidify his role in the rotation.

Following the departure of Audric Estime, the running back position in the backfield is up for grabs. Jeremiah Love is emerging as a potential breakout star, although Jadarian Price and Gi’Bran Payne, despite returning, have little experience. Establishing depth at this position is critical, especially with the enlarged College Football Playoff on the way.

Upcoming Blue-Gold Game These position battles will climax in Notre Dame’s annual Blue-Gold Game, which will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Notre Dame Stadium. The game serves as a final spring showcase, allowing players to show off their skills before the regular season begins in August. However, because to limited fan and media access, it may not provide definite answers to all position contests, causing certain questions to linger until the fall.
