An open letter from Jodie Foster to Hollywood, fans, and the entertainment community.
Dear Friend, Colleague, and Fan,
As I reflect on the various stages of my life and profession, I am filled with appreciation. Today, I’m writing to express my heartfelt gratitude to Hollywood, my devoted fans, and the whole entertainment industry for their love, support, and unshakeable belief in me.
When I first started in the profession as a child, I had no idea what to expect. From embarrassing auditions to wonderful moments on set, every step of my career has been built on the shoulders of those who believed in me, encouraged me, and provided environments in which I could grow. Hollywood became my classroom, proving ground, and, eventually, my home.
To my admirers, you have served as my anchor. Your messages, words of encouragement, and unshakeable allegiance have given my life meaning. You have given me the freedom to take risks, explore unexplored territory, and remain true to my artistic principles. You praised me at my best moments and supported me when I was down, reminding me why I fell in love with storytelling in the first place.
My colleagues—actors, directors, producers, writers, and many behind-the-scenes artists—have inspired me. Your ingenuity, enthusiasm, and unwavering pursuit of perfection have upped the standard, inspiring me to constantly give my all. I’ve been fortunate to work with visionaries that question standards and elevate storytelling to an art form that connects people.
Finally, to Hollywood as a whole, thank you for being a constantly evolving canvas. Though imperfect, this business has created an atmosphere in which various voices may be heard and important stories are conveyed. I am grateful for the possibilities to develop not only as an actress, but also as a director, producer, and, most importantly, as a person.
This letter is more than just a reflection on the past; it also expresses hope for the future. May we continue to make art that inspires, challenges, and unites. Thank you for being my family, my community, and a constant source of support. We created something remarkable together.
