To Mr. Denzel Washington, my loyal fans, and the whole entertainment community,
As I write these words from a place of calm, I find solace in thinking on the profound journey of my life and work, which would not have been possible without the love, support, and sacrifices of so many extraordinary people. This letter is a heartfelt statement of thanks for everything you’ve given me.
Mr. Denzel Washington, your name will be eternally associated with excellence, mentorship, and charity. I often go back to the fateful day when I learnt of the simple yet momentous gift you gave to myself and my fellow students, allowing us to pursue our aspirations at Oxford. You didn’t know me back then, but you recognised the potential in a new generation of storytellers. Your belief sowed a seed that grew into opportunities I could not have predicted. Every position I took on, every narrative I told, was tinged with a sense of responsibility to honour your compassion.
Thank you for opening the way for artists like me, and for serving as a shining example of what is possible when talent meets purpose.
My fans are the driving force behind my legacy. You gave me strength from the moment you accepted me as T’Challa, Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and the many other roles I had the honour of embodying. Your love, steadfast support, and limitless enthusiasm helped me get through both the best and worst days of my career. Your support in me reminded me that my effort had significance beyond the screen.
To the entertainment industry, you provided me with a platform, a purpose, and a family. This industry, with all of its intricacies and obstacles, provided me with an atmosphere in which to grow—not only as an artist, but also as a guy who values truth and integrity. Thank you to my classmates, collaborators, and mentors for teaching, challenging, and encouraging me to push boundaries.
Though my time here was brief, I am confident that I gave my all to the craft and the people I cared about. I hope that my journey inspires you to dream big, live purposefully, and lift others.
With eternal thanks and affection, Chadwick Boseman
