Lubbock, Texas — An Epochal Open Letter from Head Coach Joey McGuire To the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Our Fans, and the Entire Texas Community
To My Red Raider Family,
As I sit down to write this, my heart is full of gratitude. The journey through this past year has been nothing short of transformational—not just for me as a coach, but for all of us who wear the scarlet and black with pride.
When I accepted the honor of leading this program, I knew the expectations were great. What I didn’t fully anticipate was the overwhelming support and love from the Texas Tech community, our fans, and the people of Lubbock. You embraced me, believed in the vision, and stood by us through every high and low. That’s something I will never take for granted.
To our players—you are the heart and soul of this program. Your toughness, discipline, and relentless drive to be better every single day have made this team something special. Watching you grow not only as athletes but as leaders and young men has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. You’ve shown what it means to be Red Raiders: fearless, resilient, and united.
To our incredible fans—thank you for showing up. Rain or shine, home or away, you’ve filled the stands and lifted our spirits. The energy you bring to Jones AT&T Stadium is unmatched. You make Lubbock one of the hardest places to play in the country, and your passion reminds us of why we play this game.
And to the broader Texas community—thank you for fostering an environment where people can thrive. The support from this state, from high school coaches to alumni to everyday Texans, has created a foundation for success that goes beyond wins and losses. You’ve helped shape a culture rooted in hard work, faith, and family.
This past year was special—but we’re just getting started. The road ahead is bright, and with your continued support, we will keep building something that makes all of Texas proud.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Joey McGuire
