Wayne Rainey’s Open Letter to the Motorbike GP Racing Company, Supporters, and the Whole GP Racing Community
To the GP Racing Family,
I am incredibly grateful and appreciative of the amazing support, love, and encouragement I have gotten over the years as I think back on my journey through the world of Grand Prix motorcycle racing. This sport and its culture have played a significant role in my life from the first time I set foot on the track to the memorable highs and hardships that have molded my career.
I would want to express my gratitude to the Motorcycle GP Racing Organization for giving riders like myself the opportunity to push boundaries, pursue their goals, and make history. For generations of racers who have come after me, the sport’s competitiveness, excitement, and quest for perfection have served as an inspiration. Your dedication to safety, innovation, and the expansion of motorcycle racing has enabled this sport to flourish on a worldwide basis.
You are the lifeblood of Grand Prix racing, according to the fans. Every race, every medal, and even every setback has been worthwhile because of your enthusiasm, vigor, and unshakable faith in cyclists like me. Your commitment has been really inspiring, whether you’ve been watching from the stands, watching from around the globe, or tracking the sport’s development throughout time. Even after I stopped racing, it has been a privilege to represent you on the track and to experience your loyal support.
We have faced challenges that have tried our abilities, tenacity, and bravery, my fellow riders and competitors. Some of the most memorable events in motorcycle racing history have been shaped by the friendships and rivalries we formed on the track. The respect and friendship that permeate this sport remind us that, despite our intense competition, we are all members of one big family, for which I am incredibly thankful.
I have a purpose, a legacy, and a lifetime of memories thanks to motorcycle GP racing. My racing career was cut short, but this community’s affection and respect for me remained unwavering. It has been absolutely amazing to be able to stay engaged, mentor, and watch the next generation of riders reach new heights in the sport.
I take with me the knowledge, connections, and enthusiasm that GP racing has given me as I go forward. I will always be honored to be a part of this family, which is more than just a sport; it is a way of life and a fraternity.
I appreciate everything you’ve done.
Always a racer,
Rainey, Wayne
