BREAKING: Former Fresno State Bulldogs record-breaking quarterback Derek Carr stuns the football world with a game-changing $40 million donation to the Fresno State Bulldogs football program, honoring the coaches and teammates who paved his path to college football stardom.
Former Fresno State Bulldogs quarterback and NFL star Derek Carr has donated an astounding $40 million pledge to his alma mater’s football program, marking the highest single contribution in Fresno State Athletics history.
Carr, who holds nearly every major passing record at Fresno State and is widely regarded as one of the program’s most iconic figures, announced the monumental gift in an emotional ceremony at Valley Children’s Stadium, surrounded by former teammates, coaches, and a raucous crowd of Bulldog fans.
“This is home,” Carr explained. “Fresno State gave me more than simply a place to play football. It provided me with a family, a future, and the hope that I could achieve great things. Today, I give back to the land that gave me life—and to the people who believed in me long before I believed in myself.”
Carr’s donation will go immediately toward substantial facility enhancements, such as the rebuilding of the team’s locker rooms, the creation of a cutting-edge training and recovery center, and scholarship aid for needy student-athletes. A portion of the endowment will also go toward a legacy scholarship in honor of former Head Coach Pat Hill and current staff members who played important roles in Carr’s growth as a player and leader.
“This gift will transform Fresno State football,” Athletic Director Terry Tumey stated. “Derek Carr is more than just a legend here; he embodies what it means to be a Bulldog.” His philanthropy guarantees that future generations of athletes have the resources, facilities, and support they need to pursue their aspirations, just as he did.
Carr’s commitment also comes at a time when college football is witnessing significant investments in infrastructure, NIL opportunities, and athlete wellness. His investment demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining Fresno State competitive on a national scale, both in terms of talent development and recruiting attractiveness.
Head Coach Jeff Tedford, who mentored Carr during his breakout college seasons, was visibly saddened by the news. “This is more than a gift — this is a legacy,” he told reporters. “Derek’s leadership on the field was always unmatched, but what he’s done today proves that his heart is even bigger than his arm.”
