To the Edmonton Oilers organization, the steadfast fans, and the whole Oilers community,
As I sit down to write this letter, I think on a trip that has been nothing short of incredible. From the moment I put on the Oilers uniform, I felt the weight of history, the passion of a committed fanbase, and the expectations that come with representing such a legendary franchise. Today, I’d like to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the steadfast support, numerous memories, and affection that have helped build my profession and life.
From my first day in Edmonton, I was greeted with open arms. Many people’s belief and encouragement enabled me to make the transition from an 18-year-old rookie with huge goals to where I am now. The Oilers organization put its trust in me, providing me the opportunity to develop not only as a player, but also as a leader. My teammates, both past and present, have been like brothers to me on this journey. I will treasure the fights we’ve fought together, the highs and lows we’ve experienced, and the dedication we’ve demonstrated to one another for the rest of our lives.
To the fans, what can I possible say that will capture the enthusiasm you bring to this city and this team? Every time I step on the ice at Rogers Place, I sense the excitement, fire, and heartbeat of a hockey-crazed town. You have stood by us through every obstacle, celebrated our achievements with unrivaled joy, and continued to believe in us even when things appeared bleak. The “McDavid” chants, the sea of orange and blue, and the never-ending affection from Oil Country have been my greatest motivators.
This path has involved more than simply hockey. Edmonton has become my home. The people here have accepted me not only as a player, but also as a person. The relationships I’ve made in this community, the friendships I’ve created, and the influence we’ve had off the ice have been equally as important as anything we’ve accomplished on it. I am proud to represent our city, to give back in any way I can, and to continue creating something unique with you all.
The road isn’t over. There are still objectives to be met, desires to be pursued, and history to be made. The ultimate reward, the one we are all fighting for, is still within reach. And as long as I have the honor of wearing the Oilers crest, I will do everything I have to help this club and this city achieve the success they so rightfully deserve.
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for believing in me, supporting me, and being the best fans in the world. Together, we shall continue our trip and make history.
