An Open Letter to Coach Prime, the Colorado Buffaloes, and the Whole Buffs Community from Shedeur Sanders
Greetings, Buff Nation
I’m thinking back on the amazing journey that has led me to this point as I get ready to move on to the next phase of my football career. Without the Colorado Buffaloes family’s unfailing support, the journey of growth, resiliency, and unrelenting pursuit of greatness would not have been possible. As I stand here today at the NFL’s doorstep, I want to take a moment to really thank everyone who has helped shape me—not only as a quarterback, but as a man.
Thank you to Coach Prime, my inspiration, my father, and my leader. You shaped me, not just coached me. You pushed me to be the best at all I did and held me to a higher standard than I could have ever dreamed. Through our late-night conversations about life and our early mornings on the field, you showed me what it meant to be a leader—to live in the present and never give up. Your goal for this program was to develop young men into warriors, not simply football players, and I will always remember those lessons.
I am incredibly thankful for the relationship we formed with my brothers in the locker room. We held each other accountable through every obstacle, fought together, and celebrated together. We will always cherish the memories we created, both on and off the field. No matter where life leads me, I will always support the Buffs since you are all like family.
You are the program’s lifeblood, Colorado Buffaloes supporters. Every game felt like a championship because of your enthusiasm, drive, and faith in us. I will always treasure the moment I ran out onto Folsom Field, heard you yell, and felt your love. This community is so unique because of your continuous support, which has been there for us through the highs and lows.
I want to express my gratitude to the entire Buff Nation for their kind welcome and for creating an atmosphere that helped me develop as a man and an athlete. Colorado became my home, and I will always be a Buffalo at heart, regardless of where my profession takes me.
This is only the next chapter; it’s not farewell. But know that the Buffaloes spirit will always be a part of me.
