In a tragic development, Ben Christman, a former Ohio State football player, was found deceased at the age of 21 in his off-campus apartment near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) on February 11, 2025. The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

 

Christman, originally from Akron, Ohio, began his collegiate football career at Ohio State University. He redshirted during the 2021 season and made a single game appearance in 2022. Following his tenure with the Buckeyes, he transferred to the University of Kentucky, where he participated in 12 games on special teams during the 2024 season after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season. In December 2024, Christman transferred to UNLV to continue his football journey under head coach Dan Mullen.

 

UNLV’s athletic department announced Christman’s passing, noting that his family had been informed and that mental health support services are being offered to those affected. Coach Mullen expressed deep sorrow, highlighting Christman’s immediate positive impact on the team and his leadership qualities. UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield also conveyed heartfelt condolences, acknowledging the profound loss to the university community.

 

Ben Christman was a standout athlete from Revere High School in Richfield, Ohio, recognized as a four-star recruit and one of the top offensive linemen in the state. His untimely passing has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew him, and the university community mourns the loss of a promising young athlete.
