BREAKING NEWS: Ohio State Life Rising Star Junior Nsemba Invests $7.5 Million to Transform House Into Shelter for Homeless Youth in Columbus

Columbus, OH — May 5, 2025

In an inspiring act of generosity and leadership, Junior Nsemba, a rising star linebacker for the Ohio State Buckeyes, has invested $7.5 million of his personal earnings into transforming a historic Columbus property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.

The shelter, set to be called “Nsemba House,” will provide housing, educational support, counseling services, and job readiness programs for youth aged 14–22 who are experiencing homelessness or aging out of the foster care system.

Nsemba, 20, announced the initiative in a press conference this morning alongside city officials and representatives from several youth advocacy organizations. “This city gave me a chance to chase my dream,” he said, “and I want to make sure these kids get a chance too—no matter where they come from.”

The 18,000-square-foot property, located just west of downtown Columbus, was formerly a vacant estate. Renovations will begin this summer, with a projected opening date in early 2026. The shelter will initially accommodate up to 60 residents and include classrooms, a wellness clinic, and a full-time staff of trained social workers and educators.

Mayor Andrew Ginther praised the effort: “Junior’s vision is the kind of leadership our city and our youth need. He’s not just making plays on the field—he’s changing lives off it.”

Nsemba’s investment, largely funded by NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals and personal endorsements, sets a new precedent for college athletes using their platforms for social change.

The Buckeye community and national sports figures alike have hailed the move as one of the most meaningful athlete-led philanthropic efforts in recent years.
