BREAKING NEWS: Nathan Cleary Invests $7.5 Million to Transform Home into Shelter for Homeless Youth

Penrith, Australia – April 25, 2025

In a remarkable act of philanthropy, Nathan Cleary, the star halfback for the Penrith Panthers, has announced his investment of $7.5 million to convert his childhood home into a dedicated shelter for homeless youth in the Penrith region. This initiative underscores Cleary’s deep commitment to his community and his desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people facing adversity.

The property, located along the Nepean River, was purchased from Cleary’s father and Penrith Panthers coach, Ivan Cleary, in June 2023 for $1.7 million . Since then, Nathan has undertaken a comprehensive renovation of the 15-year-old home, aiming to create a welcoming and supportive environment for homeless youth .

The decision to repurpose the property into a shelter was inspired by Cleary’s own experiences growing up in the Penrith area and his desire to give back to the community that has supported him throughout his career. “I was fortunate to have a stable and supportive home life, but I know that’s not the reality for everyone,” Cleary said in a statement. “This shelter is my way of providing a safe space for young people who need it most.”

The shelter will offer more than just a roof over the heads of its residents. Plans include providing access to education and vocational training, mental health services, and mentorship programs. Cleary has partnered with local organizations, including the Panthers Foundation and Panthers on the Prowl, to ensure the shelter’s programs are comprehensive and effective .

The renovation of the property is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with the shelter slated to open its doors in early 2026. In the meantime, Cleary continues to lead the Penrith Panthers both on and off the field, having recently extended his contract with the club until 2027 .

Cleary’s initiative has been met with widespread praise from both the rugby league community and the broader public. His commitment to addressing homelessness among youth in the Penrith area serves as an inspiring example of how athletes can leverage their platform and resources to effect positive change.
