Norman, Oklahoma — Oklahoma, the softball superpower, just got stronger. Hannah Wells, the 2024-2025 Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year, has switched her commitment from Texas to Oklahoma, providing Head Coach Patty Gasso and the Sooners with another outstanding weapon in their already loaded armory.
Wells is more than a high prospect; she’s a once-in-a-generation talent. The Coahoma High School standout led her team to a stunning 35-1 record and the Texas 3A Division II State Championship, establishing herself as the top high school softball player in the country.
In the circle, Wells was unbeatable. She had an unbelievable 22-1 record with a 0.44 ERA, striking out 258 hitters in a season fraught with pressure and attention. Her command, velocity, and competitive drive rendered her practically unstoppable. However, her dominance did not end there; Wells was equally terrifying at the plate. She hit.602, drove in 75 RBIs, and smashed 31 home runs, shattering the Texas single-season record and astounding pitchers around the state.
Wells was originally committed to the University of Texas, but her choice to switch to archrival Oklahoma is nothing short of seismic. It is a monument to Oklahoma’s long-standing dominance and championship culture, which attracts the greatest players in the nation year after year.
“From the moment I visited Norman, I could feel something special,” Wells told me. “The standard Coach Gasso has set, the family atmosphere, and the way this team plays for one another—it’s everything I want to be a part of.” “I’m ready to pursue greatness.”
Oklahoma sees this as more than simply a recruiting success; it’s a message to the rest of collegiate softball. The Sooners are reloading and not rebuilding. With Hannah Wells in crimson and cream, Oklahoma softball’s rich tradition is set to continue—and evolve with even more strength.
The future of Norman has never looked brighter. Hannah Wells is coming. And with her, championship aspirations only rise.
