The Leandro Bacuna insight from Reading that shows what Cardiff City can expect
There has been a divide from Bluebirds fans on whether the ex Aston Villa star will prove to be good signingLeandro Bacuna is a Cardiff City player.
The Bluebirds chose deadline day to swoop for a versatile player from the Championship, albeit one with Premier League experience with Aston Villa, in a cut-price deal. But the £3million man has said he’s “looking forward to getting started”, with Cardiff excited about Bacuna’s adaptability, work-rate and physical prowess.
Will he be a good signing?
We asked Jonathan Low , Reading FC football journalist with Football.London , about what Bacuna could bring to the Bluebirds and the Royals’ reaction to his departure…Why are Reading letting him leave?
“The squad’s far too big and this goes some way to addressing that. But that said, Bacuna has been a key player for Reading this season and there are plenty of others above him on the list who need to be moved on.The reported £3million fee would have been hard to resist though, and getting him off the wage bill too will help in a financial sense. He was one of Reading’s higher earners for sure.
“Midfield is a well-stocked position, although in the central defensive area it is a bit short with David Meyler out of favour and Saeid Ezatolahi injured. Lewis Baker was brought in though on loan from Chelsea so he is probably the like-for-like replacement.”How popular was Bacuna with Reading fans?
With Reading fans on social media expressing contrasting opinions on Bacuna as a player, we asked Jonathan for his insight.
“I wouldn’t say very popular but I would not say unpopular either. He was (and is) a trier and although he is not the most technically gifted player, he does put in a good shift.
“He brought energy and strength to the midfield, and defensive cover — although sometimes that was limited.”
Jonathan says Bacuna’s primary position at Reading was in central midfield, although he can fill in as a right-back or right wing back.
