The Indiana Fever have had a very busy WNBA offseason, and they are still making changes.
This WNBA offseason, the Indiana Fever have been playing hard and aren’t slowing down. Jillian Alleyne was recently signed to a training camp contract as part of the team’s ongoing roster additions.
Alleyne, who most recently played in Turkey, was added to the Fever’s roster on Monday for training camp. After playing collegiate basketball for Oregon, Alleyne was selected by the Phoenix Mercury with the 20th overall choice in the 2016 WNBA Draft. She then played for the Minnesota Lynx and Washington Mystics. Despite her stellar undergraduate career with the Ducks, she saw the floor very little during her WNBA experience.
With an average of 18.6 points and 13.8 rebounds per game, Alleyne was a standout player for Turkey’s Tarsus Belediyesi Mersin during the previous season. Before the WNBA season begins, the 6’3″ player will try to establish herself in the Fever frontcourt.
Given the prior arrivals of Natasha Howard, DeWanna Bonner, Sophie Cunningham, and Brianna Turner, the frontcourt is obviously currently crowded. Indiana will therefore have to make a difficult choice about which players to retain on non-guaranteed contracts. For a position on the final roster, Alleyne will probably have to contend with guard Jaelyn Brown and any Fever draft selections.
The Fever look strong going into Caitlin Clark’s second professional season, regardless of how the team’s personnel situation turns out at the beginning of the season. And it’s obvious that the team is making every effort to develop around the basketball star.
