Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Discusses Offseason Decisions for Quinn Ewers and Jaydon Blue.

As the Texas Longhorns prepare for another season, head coach Steve Sarkisian faces an intriguing offseason with quarterback Quinn Ewers and running back Jaydon Blue. Both players, who are important to Texas’ success, have faced questions about their growth, responsibilities, and future contributions, putting Sarkisian in charge of managing expectations and setting the tone for 2025.

During a recent press conference, Sarkisian confirmed his belief in Ewers as the Longhorns’ offensive leader. After a promising but inconsistent 2024 season, Ewers showed glimpses of brilliance, leading the Longhorns to key victories but suffering with turnovers and decision-making in high-pressure situations. Sarkisian acknowledged the hurdles, but lauded Ewers’ dedication to improving during the summer.

“Quinn’s growth has been phenomenal this year,” Sarkisian added. “He’s focused on the mental part of the game, and you can see how he’s striving to improve his leadership on and off the pitch. We expect huge things from him.” Sarkisian emphasised Ewers’ physical development, citing increased conditioning and a better understanding of the scheme, which could cement his status as one of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12 and possibly the country.

Sarkisian praised Blue’s potential, particularly his speed and agility. “Jaydon’s a special talent,” Sarkisian added. “He has that home run ability every time he touches the ball, and we’re looking for ways to use him more creatively. This spring, we saw him make significant improvements in pass protection and route running, which will allow him to see the pitch more frequently.”

Sarkisian also alluded to the problems of balancing player growth and competition. “It’s about putting the team in the best position to win while also giving guys like Jaydon opportunities to shine,” he told me.

As Texas attempts to capitalise on its momentum, Ewers and Blue’s performance will definitely be critical. Sarkisian’s belief in their improvement highlights the team’s high expectations for the autumn.
