From the moment I put on a BYU jersey, I knew I was a part of something special. This program, this university, and this amazing fan base have given me more than just a place to play basketball—you have given me a home, a family, and a community that has supported me in every way. This is an epistolary open letter from Amari Whiting to the BYU Cougars, Fans, and the Entire Cougars Community. As I take a moment to think back on my journey, I am incredibly grateful.
Thank you to Coach Amber Whiting, my teammates, and the entire coaching staff at BYU for encouraging me to reach my full potential, believing in me, and fostering an atmosphere that allowed me to develop as a player and a person. I am the person I am today because of every practice, game, and obstacle I have faced. I am incredibly thankful to have been a part of this program under your management; your leadership and advice have been essential.
On and off the court, my teammates have been my sisters. Together, we have fought, supported one another through hardship, and shared in our triumphs. I will always treasure the relationship we have, and I feel privileged to have performed with such gifted, committed, and motivated people.
I have developed personally as well as as a basketball player thanks to this program. I will carry with me throughout my life the teachings I have learned here, including the importance of perseverance, faith, hard work, and resilience. BYU will always remain a part of me, no matter where my path leads.
I’m grateful, BYU. I appreciate everything you’ve done.
With appreciation and affection,
Amari Whiting,
